She grew up in a theater family in Maykop. Stepfather – Medzhid Salekhovich Akhedzhakov (1914-2012) was the main director, mother Yulia Alexandrovna (1916-1990) – actress of the Adygea Drama Theater.
Entered the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals. In 1958, he was transferred to Krasnoyarsk, but by that time Leah had already realized that she had chosen the wrong path, and, like her father once, she entered GITIS.
In 1962 she graduated from the State Institute of Theater Arts. A.V. Lunacharsky (Adyghe studio).
In 1960, she was accepted into the troupe of the Moscow Youth Theater in the role of a drag queen. She played one of the best roles in the play “My Brother Plays the Clarinet.”
In 1977 she joined the troupe of the Sovremennik Theater, under director Galina Volchek.
The actress began acting in films in 1973, and already her debut role in the film “Looking for a Man” was awarded prizes at the international film festivals in Varna and Locarno.
Liya Akhedzhakova has starred with many prominent directors, her acting, even in episodes, has always attracted the attention of viewers – just name her roles in Alexei German’s film “Twenty Days Without War” and Vladimir Menshov’s melodrama “Moscow Doesn’t Believe in Tears” – but her talent as a sharp-character actress is most striking , prone to grotesque and tragicomic roles, appeared in the films of director Eldar Ryazanov, whom she first met in 1975 on the set of “The Irony of Fate.” For the role of secretary Verochka, she, along with other creators of “Office Romance”, was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR named after the Vasilyev brothers. According to Eldar Ryazanov himself, he and Emil Braginsky wrote the role of Elena Malaeva in “Garage” specifically “for” Akhedzhakova.
For her role in Ryazanov’s tragicomedy “Promised Heaven,” recognized as the film of the year, she was named the best actress of 1991, according to a survey by the magazine “Soviet Screen”.
